Pronoun Songs for Personal, Indefinite, and Demonstrative Pronouns
Although these songs cover only personal, indefinite, and demonstrative pronouns, you can make up additional songs for any type of pronoun you’re currently teaching. Even better, challenge your students to make up a song!
Personal Pronouns
Personal pronouns are the most basic type of pronouns, and they’re the ones that are used most often in both speech and writing. This personal pronoun song is perfect for the younger grades, who usually only learn these words as pronouns.
“Personal Pronouns,” to the tune of “Yankee Doodle”
I and me and us and we,
Are the “First Person Four,”
Second person: only you,
There aren’t any more.
Third person is he and she,
It and her and him.
Don’t forget about they and them
You know them all! You win!
Indefinite Pronouns
Indefinite pronouns are probably the hardest to teach, if you’re searching for a strong definition. On the other hand, this indefinite pronoun song makes them a lot of fun to learn! Sing this song to them, and you’ll be surprised at how quickly they pick up on the concept of indefinite pronouns.
“Indefinite Pronouns,” to the tune of “She’ll be Comin’ ‘Round the Mountain When She Comes”
Oh, there’s anybody, anyone, and each.
And there’s everybody, everyone, and some.
Oh, there’s anything and everything
And nobody and somebody
And something, nothing, any, most, and none.
Yes, there’s either, neither, nothing, few, and both.
And there’s any, many, someone, and there’s one.
Indefinite and fun to sing
You’ll love them more than anything,
And now this pronoun song is finally done!
Demonstrative Pronouns
When you teach students about demonstrative pronouns, make sure that you explain how you can use these words to “point” with words to the object that you’re talking about. For example, if you would say “This is my chair,” the word this would be pointing to the object that is your chair.
“Demonstrative Pronouns,” to the tune of “Row, Row, Row Your Boat”
This, that, these, and those
Are pronouns that we teach.
They are all demonstrative,
And you can point at each.
