Fox Preschool Crafts: Ideas for the Classroom

Foxes have been used in storytelling across the ages. Whether it is for their characteristic beauty or their suggested sly personalities they come up again and again in literature. Many teachers include the fox in their animal units or have specific “fox” themed lesson plans they use. Whether it is for a fox story your class might be reading or as an addition to a lesson plan, these preschool fox crafts will offer hands-on learning fun.

F is for Fox

Materials Needed:

• White construction paper with the letter “F” pre-printed on it (one for each child)

• Pre-cut forms of a fox head and tail (one of each for each student)

• Glue sticks

• Crayons or markers

This craft is works well as an addition to an animal, fox, or alphabet lesson plan. Little preparation is needed. Simply draw a letter “F” on a piece of paper and give a copy to each of your students. You could also have your students trace a letter F on their own pieces of paper, or “connect-the-dots” if they are able. Discuss with your students the characteristics of the fox such as pointy ears, long nose, dark colored legs, and busy tail. Turn the letter “F” on its side, and turn it into a fox! Have the students glue the head in the upper right hand corner and the tail in the long section of the “F.” Some students might need help with gluing. Then have the children color in the legs. When they are finished with these basic characteristics they can go on to color the rest of the fox in.

Fox Mask

Materials Needed:

• Pre-cut fox mask (one for each child)

• Crayons or markers

• Brown, orange and white construction paper pieces cut up in 1" pieces

• Glue sticks

• Yarn to tie mask on the student

This craft enables children to let their imaginations run wild, much like the fox. Have a pre-cut fox mask available for each child. You could have the students color these masks with crayons or markers. You could also have cut up quarter-inch pieces of construction paper in brown, orange, and white and have the students’ glue them on a mask for a textured effect. Let your imagination run wild with what could go on this mask. Once done, watch your students slip into the role of the fox when they wear their art!

Fox Tail

Materials Needed:

• Pre-cut pieces of fox’s tail (see image, one of each piece per child)

• Crayons or markers

• Glue sticks

This is a simple craft for preschoolers to engage in. Have 2 pre-cut construction paper pieces of a fox’s tail. The orange (or brown) color will be the full shape of the tail, while the white will be just for the tip of the tail. Have the students glue on the white tip to the rest of the tail. You could have the students draw fur on the tail if using the colored construction paper. You could also have the tail in plain black and white and have the students color in the corresponding colors. Once done, punch a hole in the end of the tail and make a belt out of yarn. Tie the tails to the children’s midsection if they wish and let them have fun pretending they are foxes. This tail could be used with the mask mentioned earlier for a full fox effect.

These fox crafts for preschool will enhance any related lesson plan, and will be welcomed by your students. They are enjoyable and educational at the same time, benefiting everyone in the classroom.
