Hands-On Christmas Snacks

Preschool students love creative snacks, and what they love even more is the privilege of helping to make those fun snacks. Use these recipes to bring some giggles into snack time. You’ll also be helping your students to practice their fine motor skills as they learn to manipulate foods.

To begin with, you might consider doing a lesson plan on community helpers and charity so that students can learn about charity during the Christmas season. Then, have students make snack packages with some of the treats below and deliver them to different classrooms or loved one to promote the act of charity.

Snowmen

For this snack you will need white donut holes, raisins, straight pretzels, and water. Have the students put a pretzel through the center of a donut hole, then set another donut hole on top of it to make a snowman. Give the snowman eyes by dipping th raisins in water, then placing them on the snowman. If the raisins don’t stick, poke eye holes in with pretzel; then stick the raisins in the holes.

Reindeer Sandwiches

For this activity you will need bread, peanut butter, a butter knife, pretzels, licorice, raisins, and some sort of small berry such as raspberries or cranberries. Coat a slice of bread with peanut butter. Cut the bread in half so that it forms two triangles. Place the pretzels on the corners for antlers. Use the raisins for eyes and the berry for a nose. Create a mouth out of licorice.

Gingerbread Man

Use cookie cutters to cut out and bake gingerbread men. Bring them in for students to decorate. As the decorations dry, leave the room. Ask another teacher to help you by coming to get the gingerbread men and leaving a note with the words “Run, run as fast as you can. You can’t catch me! I’m the Gingerbread man!” as well as some type of clue as to where the gingerbread man might be found. Repeat this until all the gingerbread men are found and the children are giggling like mad!

Use these preschool Christmas snacks to ensure that your students have a wonderful time getting ready for Christmas fun. Don’t forget to play Christmas music in the background for the full effect.
