An effective introduction allows for two basic things: grabbing the attention of the reader and letting the reader know what the essay will hold. An effective introduction usually holds a thesis statement that covers what will be discussed in the paper. The placing of the thesis statement is also very important and the placement of it at the end of the paragraph allows it to be led up to by a hook. The hook helps to catch the attention of the audience. A few ways to hook the audience include utilizing a short narrative or anecdote, a very startling statistic or a quotation. The introduction of the essay is very important for letting the reader know what will happen in the duration of the essay that will come.

The Body: The “Meat” of the Essay

The body of an essay is essentially the “meat” of the essay. This is the part of the essay where you are able to talk about your points in depth and explain some of your reasoning. The first paragraph of your body should slowly lead the thesis statement into something that can be explained and managed. Each paragraph should start with a topic sentence that includes some variation of the thesis. Next, support your main point with solid evidence or quotations that are directly linked to it. Furthermore, make sure that each paragraph includes five to six sentences of solid evidence to help prove your point, making sure that it relates back to the thesis in some way.

How to Write an Effective Conclusion

The conclusion is the last chance to make an impression on the reader. The conclusion is the thing that a reader will remember from a piece of writing. Writing a conclusion is particularly important in persuasive essays because it offers the final opportunity to convince the reader.

There are several ways to write an effective conclusion. To begin, use a summary statement rather than a summary phrase. Avoid using phrases that often begin with “In summary” or “In conclusion." It is much better to use a statement because it is much more effective and summarizes a point in the essay a lot better. In addition, refer back to the thesis of the essay. To better make your reader remember your thesis statement, restate your thesis with different words. Last, if necessary, issue a call for action during your conclusion because it is the final thing that your reader will remember.
