    Johnny’s Cap

Don’t have enough old pots for the whole class to have a Johnny Appleseed hat? No problem. Give each student a plastic bowl, glue, and lots of art supplies. Feathers, ribbons, beads, and small pieces of tissue paper work best. Have students smear the glue all over the bottom of the bowl and stick the art supplies of their choice all over the glue. Allow time for the glue to dry completely, and then tape a stick to the bowl with masking tape to form the “handle" of the “pot." Let your students wear their hats around the classroom. If you’d like, they can wear them while they dance to music!

    Apple Seed Smile

Have each student dissect an apple and put each of the seeds into a small cup. Then give each student the outline of an apple to color in. Encourage students to glue the seeds to the apple picture so that they form two eyes, a nose, and a mouth. Display their creations for the rest of the class to see.

    “Make a Difference" Class Book

Give each student a piece of paper cut into the shape of an apple. Encourage them to draw a picture of one way that they can or do make a difference in the world, just like Johnny Appleseed did. Help students write a short sentence beneath their pictures. Punch holes in one side of the pictures and thread yarn through them to form a book. (You can decorate a cover for the book as well, if you’d like.) This Johnny Appleseed craft for preschool is perfect to show off on PTA day!
