5th Grade Body Systems Worksheets

If you want to give your students a worksheet on the body system, then here are some places to find worksheets around the web:

  • Teachnology: On the Teachnology website, there are a series of worksheets about body systems. These worksheets include the circulatory, digestive, endocrine, nervous, muscular, skeletal, and respiratory systems. Some of the sheets are an explanation of the system while others are a diagram with fill-in-the blank labels and questions about the system.
  • Teachervision: On the Teachervision website, you can sign up for a free 7-day trial and access their Human Body Printable Book for grades 4 to 8, which is perfect for your fifth grade students. Besides the Human Body Printable Book, they also have worksheets for organ systems in the body; a diagram of the mouth, nose, and lungs; major bones in the human body; and body parts art projects.
  • Neuroscience for Kids: This site has several choices if you want to give your students a worksheet on the body system. You can choose from word search puzzles on the brain and senses to crossword puzzles on the nervous system. You will also find games, coloring pages, and fill-in-the blank sheets.

Body Systems Activities

Besides a worksheet on the body system, you can do activities with students which combines all body systems together or targets one system at a time. Here are some examples:

  • Mix and Match: This activity can be done on a felt board, with laminated pieces and magnets on a dry erase board, or even on individual worksheets. Before doing the activity, you will need to create body system parts and body system labels. Draw or create on the computer parts such as the heart, spinal cord, brain, lungs, blood vessels, bones, muscles, and so on. Then create labels like the nervous system, the circulatory system, and so on. Put all the pieces together on the felt board or dry erase board and spread the labels out on the other side. Students take turns coming to the board, removing a piece, and putting it under its proper label. When you finish the class activity, pass out a worksheet where students can cut out their own body system parts and labels, classify them, and glue them together on a separate sheet of paper.
  • **Pretend you are. . .**Instead of a worksheet on the body system, students can do a writing assignment. Ask students to pretend they are a certain body part such as the heart, lungs, or brain. Students write a paragraph or more, depending on their ability levels, pretending they are that part. For example, students might start with something like: “I am the heart. I work hard all day and night in the body. My job is to pump blood and oxygen throughout the body, so all systems can work properly. I love it when my person exercises. This really gets me pumping.” Students can then illustrate these paragraphs/stories, which make a great bulletin board or wall display.

Have fun and be creative while students learn about body systems.
