Learning Basic Spanish: Read, Read, Read

In this learning Spanish lesson, we will look at some Spanish phrases on the topic of books. Spanish literature is vast and rich, and reading in anything you can will improve your language skills and cultural knowledge much more quickly.

    Read Any Genre or Type of Book

    A good way for Spanish learners to improve their language skills is to read widely in Spanish. Read anything you can get your hands on: comics, magazines, books, etc. Try reading news online. There is even a suggested list of online Spanish newspapers at the end of this article.

    Reading in Spanish will offer the following benefits:

    • It will improve your vocabulary.
    • It will help you understand sentence structures better.
    • It will keep you in constant touch with the Spanish language.
    • It will help you learn colloquial Spanish.
    • It will help you understand Spanish culture better.
    • It will, of course, broaden your mind, given the great treasure trove of Spanish literature.

    Spanish Book Phrases

    In this basic Spanish lesson, we will talk about a favorite book. Here are some Spanish phrases:

    • I like to read. - Me gusta leer.
    • I read all the time. - Leí todo el tiempo.
    • I have many books at home. - Tengo muchos libros en casa.
    • I buy books all the time. - Compro libros todo el tiempo.
    • Reading broadens the mind. - La lectura ensancha la mente.
    • I like to read books on history. - Me gusta leer libros de historia.
    • I am particularly interested in Roman history and Indian history. - Estoy particularmente interesado en la historia romana y la historia india.
    • What is your favorite book? - ¿Cuál es tu libro favorito?
    • My favorite book is.... - Mi libro favorito es ....
    • I am reading "October Horse" by Colleen McCullough. - Estoy leyendo "October Horse" por Colleen McCullough.
    • This book is about Julius Caesar. - Este libro está sobre Julio César.
    • The book is very well researched and well written. - El libro está muy bien investigado y bien escrito.
    • The book is part of a series on Ancient Rome. - El libro es parte de una serie sobre la antigua Roma.
